Civic Projects

East Boulder Senior Center Pocket Garden: Barb Gardner chairs this activity. In 2004, the BGC adopted a pocket garden at the entrance to the Senior Center. Members plant and maintain this garden throughout the year.

CFGC Scholarship Fund: Member Jill Jagemann is the CFGC Scholarship Chairman.

Penny Pines: The Club has donated to a Penny Pine plantation in support of reforestation in Colorado. The Forest Service uses our donation together with Federal funds and provides protection from fires, insects and disease as it does with all plantations. These are part of the regular reforestation program that plants on burned-over and brushed-covered areas which are potentially productive timberlands, providing soil protection, watershed protection and beauty and recreation benefits.

Growing Gardens: Lawrie Wilson is a regular volunteer for this organization that educates children aged 4 through 10. Other members participate. This non-profit organization creates community through gardening. In 2019 the club made a $500 donation to receive fruit donor status and be recognized on the orchard gate.

World of Wonder Museum: The WOW museum, in Lafayette, is a hands-on learning museum for kids. The Club has donated towards the purchase of plants for their new garden area.

City of Boulder Tree Donation: The Club donated a Swamp White Oak tree that was planted at the East Boulder Community Center.

Honorarium Donation: A member/speaker, who is a breast cancer survivor, declined her Honorarium and asked that we make a donation to breast cancer. We donated to Anschutz Medical Center for breast cancer research.

Boulder Cycling Monument

Meals on Wheels (MOW): Patty Rhodes, Chair
MOW was started in 1969 and delivers meals to people who have limitations and cannot cook for themselves. BGC bouquets are for those who have a birthday during the week they receive a meal.
Each year more than 200 birthday bouquets are supplied and delivered to the Boulder Meals on Wheels Program. The club regularly receives notes of gratitude and appreciation from the recipients or a family member. These notes are very much appreciated.

Annual Plant Sale: Jana Murphy, Chairwoman
The BGC Plant Sale is held in May on the Saturday morning before Mother’s Day.

Fund Raising

Each May on the Saturday before Mother's Day, the Boulder Garden Club holds a plant sale. Members contribute plants from their gardens or from propagation, and have other small garden items on sale. Proceeds from the plant sale and extra donations by club members support the civic projects of the club.
